The Fram was the first ship specially built in Norway for polar research. She was used on three important expeditions: with Fridtjof Nansen on a drift over the Arctic Ocean , with Otto Sverdrup to the arctic archipelago west of Greenland - now the Nunavut region of Canada - , and with Roald Amundsen to Antarctica for his South Pole expedition The Fram is now housed and exhibited in the Fram Museum at Bygdøynes, Oslo
The theory behind the Fram

Fram ("Forward") is a ship that was used in expeditions of the Arctic and Antarctic regions by the Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup, Oscar Wisting, and Roald Amundsen between and It was designed and built by the Scottish-Norwegian shipwright Colin Archer for Fridtjof Nansen's Arctic expedition in which the plan was to freeze Fram into the Arctic ice sheet and float with it over the North Pole.
Fram is preserved as a museum ship at the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway.

- Räcken
Det finns flera fördelar med bra räcken. Det gör båtens kant lite högre och du får mer att hålla dig i och därmed ökad trygghet. Räcken kan också användas för att fästa vissa redskap, exempelvis vid fiske. Räcket ska däremot inte användas vid förtöjning av båten.
- Targabåge
Den är specifikt avsedd att fästa extrautrustning på såsom lanternor, strålkastare och belysning. Targabågen fungerar också som trygghet och extra räcke vid sjögång eller hastiga manövrar.
- Styrpulpet/styrkonsol
Med en sån kan du styra båten med en ratt istället för att sitta längst bak i båten vid motorn. Styrkonsol ger bättre kontroll och är att föredra för alla båtar med motorer över 25hk. Du manövrerar framåtvänd i båten och får en bättre körupplevelse. Konsolen utgör också en naturlig placering för instrument som ekolod och GPS. Den tar dock upp utrymme i båten.
